Awana Gametime Director


Awana Gametime Director

• Prepares room for safe play 
• Gets equipment out and ready to use. 
• Selects specific games. 
• Prays for safety for kids during game time. 
• Facilitates Awana games and variations that are fun. 
• Focuses on fun (not competition). 
• Makes sure kids know the 4 Game Rules: 
- Pay attention – it pays off 
- Have fun 
- Don’t mess with someone else’s fun 
- Never say “I can’t;” say “I’ll try.” 
• Put away equipment and clean up the room. 
• Ensure that a leader reports game points to the club secretaries. 
• Provides constant encouragement for kids. 
• Participates in Awana leadership activities and planning as needed. 

Awana Small Group Leader

Awana Small Group Leader 

• Provide basic group leadership for your small group to get them to the right place at the right time during the course of the evening. 
• Shepherd the kids in your small group, attempting to lead them into deeper relationships with other Christians and with Jesus Christ. 
• Provide constant encouragement for kids in your small group. 
• Participate in Awana leadership activities and planning as needed. 
• Whenever possible, actively pursue outside discipleship opportunities with your group members. 
• Listen to the kids as they recite sections of their handbook, sign their book, and properly record progress to be reported to the club Secretary. 
• Help kids work through sections - making sure they completely understand the principles and concepts. 
• Help group line up when needed during game time. 
• Help keep children involved in the games and paying attention during respectful moments. 
• Help with minor injuries should they occur. 
• Sit with group and help them pay attention to the speaker. 
• Congratulate and encourage kids for their achievements. 


There are Small Group Leader positions available in the following areas:

  • Puggles: Two year olds
  • Cubbies: Three and Four year olds
  • Sparks: Kindergarten through Second Grades
  • Truth and Training Girls: Third through Sixth Grades
  • Truth and Training Boys: Third through Sixth Grades

Awana Club Directors


Awana Club Director 

• Keeps children involved in activities and paying attention during respectful moments. 
• Helps with minor injuries that occur. 
• Handles all upper level discipline problems (beyond scope of small group leaders). Major discipline issues should be discussed with the Commander. 
• Introduces Council time and highlights achievements and major awards won by kids in club. 
• Either coordinates speakers for Council Time or conducts Council Time and makes sure this time is effective. 
• Assists as a listener during handbook time. 
• Works with the Commander to plan specific activities for club. 
• Collaborates with secretary to ensure that all materials are being ordered in a timely manner. 
• Keeps expenditures within budget according to Awana budget guidelines. 
• Watches and evaluates leaders and the kids’ experience in club. 
• Keeps track of general progress of kids in the club, by staying in contact with Small Group leaders. 
• Manages and leads Small Group Leaders and Secretary in club by having fellowship gatherings, weekly prayers, etc. 

There are Director positions available in the following areas:

Club Secretaries

Awana Club Secretary 

• Provides constant encouragement for kids who have passed sections. 
• Orders materials as needed. 
• Participates in Awana leadership activities and planning as needed. 
• Keeps track of and tabulates team points. 
• Awards kids with appropriate stickers/awards for signed sections. 
• Keeps uniform records. 
• Maintains child’s individual records (attendance, sections passed, etc.) using Awana software.
• Notifies Director when major milestones have been reached. 

There are secretary positions available in the following areas:

  • Sparks: Kindergarten through Second Grades
  • Truth & Training Girls: Third through Sixth Grades
  • Truth & Training Boys: Third through Sixth Grades
